TerraGraphics visited sites in southern Ethiopia and Northern Kenya at the invitation of Global Poverty Action, a Non-Governmental Organization, to assess water supply in the region.  TerraGraphics evaluated over thirty surface water supply sites in rural, arid areas that would supply both drinking and irrigation water to over one million people. 

TerraGraphics collaborated with local leaders and resources to develop projects with a focus on sustainability and simplicity.  An engineering feasibility study was prepared that proposed a phased approach, prioritizing projects within critical areas and funding restraints.  The first phase will consist of expanding four existing water supply reservoirs, constructing a new reservoir, and repair/reconstructing three water supply dam sites. The total budget for these projects is $2,200,000 (U.S. dollars 2007).  Final engineering plans have been prepared for the first dam repair and construction is underway.  The projects will support additional efforts to initiate investigation for water boreholes, river diversions for irrigation, and additional water supply reservoir projects.  Other program objectives include training locals to manage projects and community economic growth.
